    Facts are facts.

The surveillance state will shred any remnant of democracy we have left in this country.

    Dissent will disappear.

    •  "Johny wurster" - this D Kos poster has (10+ / 0-)

been apologizing all over the place.

I just wrote a post about how surveillance could be used to destroy environmental groups, and he responded "I don't think that could happen."

When, in fact, it IS happening.

      I cannot stand these people.

This is what this type of surveillance is designed to do. Looking for terrorists is tiny side show. They track groups. They're looking for activists who are organizing. Then the FBI receives an anonymous tip to look into the organizers activities.
But this is also private business--hundreds of private firms and consulting groups--supported by loads of government money who have access to all this classified information.
Snowden is a drop in the bucket.

Snowden was reputedly taking home $200K which is considerably more than a system admin would normally make $100K is a good salary for a UNIX admin.
Like many people he is described as a consultant but he really wasn’t. He was an NSA employee who was being paid through a contract with Booze Allen. He was what we used to call a ‘Temp’. But in many government offices they can’t pay a commercial salary for a position so they pay twice to three times as much to hire them as a ‘consultant’.

So the government won’t pay a commercial rate for employing technical staff and they pay double to hire them through an agency.

This is so corrupt...the word corruption is inadequate to describe what is going on here.

surveillance. Corporate surveillance of environmental groups, and even joint police-gov/corp surveillance.

side note: I also read yesterday on Reddit, the moderator for the Occupy subreddit on Reddit turned out to be an FBI informant!

People don't want to be paranoid and cynical but, it's naive and head-in-the-sand to think this stuff isn't happening.

He was also all over DK during the Occupy movement, telling us what a bunch of DFH's we were and that the government was perfectly within their rights to use paramilitary tactics and equipment to shut down the protests.

It seems to be an ongoing theme with lawyers - I was told by another  right wing authoritarian DK lawyer that Johnny is a tax lawyer ... not surprising. It seems that many in the field of law adopt a reverential attitude towards written laws that ignores ideas like constitutionality or appropriateness. The law is the law and it is to be worshiped.

His comments on this situation have been ubiquitous and shitty.

He was known as barnowl (sp?) until he pissed off too many people and got a new moniker.

            •  You too? (0+ / 0-)

I urge you to rethink your rec of what is a pretty trollish comment on the face of it. Does that comment add anything to discussion of the issue presented in the diary? No, it does not. It simply feeds flame wars and personality conflicts.

And it would be a really good idea for you to provide evidence of your assertion of a prior ID, especially since you are citing a user name that appears to have no connection whatever to the user you and Blicero are piling on.

              •  I tried to find the relevant comment but the DKos (0+ / 0-)

search function won't work for me, even for a relatively simple search.

Sometime within the past year or so, in a similar discussion about Johnny Wurster and his propensity for right wing authoritarian positions and hippie punching, VClib informed me that Johnny is an exceptional tax attorney and that he has run into a lot of opposition here for his positions, so much so that he had changed  usernames, and that he was previously known as barnowl. After some of the things that Johnny wrote about OWS, I have zero qualms with "piling on" him. I disliked the man when he posted as barnowl and I continue to dislike him as Johnny Wurster. If you wish to question the accuracy of the name change I suggest you take it up with VClib.

Lots of diaries over the past 24 hours dealing with exactly what you just did, and with your earlier "apologist" comment.

This diary presented some information that is worth discussion, in all its aspects. Yet you have decided to bypass discussion of the information presented, or its context, or implications, or the proper response to it. You have instead decided to bypass policies for personalities - to attack other community members as a group, and even calling one out by name.  This is trollish behavior, whether you intended it that way or not.
