And I guarant-fucking-tee he's fighting it with the help of the Police Union.

I wish the people here who keep trying to insist that because the cops are unionized that they are a likely ally to us on the left would pull their heads out of their asses and realize that just because the cops are unionized and organized doesn't mean they or their union are on your side.  At all.

This video was fucking horrific, and considering what happened to her after she got into custody and away from all of the cameras makes me sick at my stomach.

that shows the police union is supporting him, that's a pretty unfounded piece of anti-union crap.

    •  The Mayor of Portland is showing some gonads.... (5+ / 0-)

....in working against the police union - the city is actually seeking to have the commanders' union (lieutenants up to assistant chiefs) decertified, claiming that they are supervisory personnel.

9-11 changed everything? Well, Katrina changed it back.

there is no guarantee that there is even a 'police union'. In a lot of places they call themselves an 'association' to avoid the evils of being in a union.

      •  There is a Union here... (2+ / 0-)

There is one here, and it only exists to make sure that no policeman is ever held accountable for their actions. There is a reason that no shooting has ever been found anything but justified here, after all. Any attempt at real reform of the system is shut down by the police union. For years we had no review process because the police union told every cop not to cooperate in any way.

        •  That's a rather negative view of a Union (0+ / 0-)

so it makes me a tad bit uncomfortable but point taken about the power that a Union can have to waylay any internal reforms.

If he's a member in good standing, he gets representation, no matter what the hell he did.  If the Union didn't represent him he'd be able to sue the hell out of them.

Merely stating the facts, if he's a member of a Police union then they're working to get him back in uniform, because that's what the police union does.

Right or wrong.  Menace to the public or not.  That's what the police union does.

So people around here need to remember this video next time they're talking about the police as possible allies in the War vs. the 1% and forget about the fact that they happen to mostly be unionized.

Because what's in this video (and thousands more like it) is what matters, not that they have a union.
