  •  Here's a report from on the ground (15+ / 0-)

by one my friends in Istanbul who is part of the "Diren Gezi Park" (Occupy Gezi Park Movement). It was in response to my FB post about the Istanbul Police making a large show of force at Taksim Square:

    Dear friends,

Police entered into Taksim square this morning, announcing a clean up in Taksim. Gezi park protestors stayed calm in the park, however some provocators who don't belong to the protest, attacked police and all main media, who didn't show the protests since the beginning, (but) gave all event live at T.V.

At the same time. police who has been violently harsh to the protestors all week, didn't even try to catch these protestors.

This all seems like a theater show, to mislead people both in Turkey and abroad. Police also attacked Gezi Park ,although the governer promised police will not attack there.

Meanwhile above 40 attorneys are today taken into custody because of their government protests.

Tomorrow, there seems to be a meeting between Erdoğan and the protestors. However, Erdoğan didn't invite protestors but picked irrelevant people for the meeting. Therefore, this meeting is part of Erdoğan show to deny protestors and the protest. This meeting will not be successful, and Erdoğan will seem to communicate (to) protestors as U.S and E.U requested.

Please kindly share this truth for the sake of diren gezi park.
