    With all of the events in the world today, with all of the bad news and right turns and wars, it is somehow touching and humane to know that we can pause, celebrate life and share our experiences across the ether.  I'm humbled.

    I'd also like to make two quick comments after re-reading my diary here:

    1) In no way do I mean to denigrate the IVF process.  I'll always remember it as hell because it was unsuccessful for us.  But many, many couples find success and produce a child.  It is only hell until it works.

    2)  My daughter will grow up seeing nothing remarkable or interesting about the fact that gays can marry and an African-American is/was President.  Progress is slow, but it comes.

    If I could have but one wish for my daughter, I would harken back to Robert Kennedy and the words he recalled in memorializing MLK:

    "Let us dedicate ourselves to what the Greeks wrote so many years ago: to tame the savageness of man and make gentle the life of the world."

    If only we could take those words to heart, our children could grow up in a world of peace.
