Starting in the late 1970s and gaining in popularity in the 80s and beyond was a RW form of Christianity based on what they themselves call the Prosperity Gospel.  Of course, it's BS, but they sold it widely to the more fundamentalist churches in the country (I left my own when it started being preached).

Basically it goes back to an old Judean belief that existed through the time of Jesus.  People believed that if you were prosperous, it was because God blessed you.  If you were poor, sick, or disabled it was because you or your family were sinners and you were being punished.

Jesus tried to put an end to it during his lifetime by healing the sick and reminding them that they weren't sinners.  He also talked about the paradise that awaited the poor and sick "in My Fathers house".

So, according to the Prosperity Gospel, the Koch Brothers and WalMart heirs are cloaked in Godliness and poor people, sick people, and disabled people are poor, sick, and disabled because they or their parents are sinful, undeserving, and are bieing punished for their sins.

Yeah, it's BS, but RWrs love it.

I love your diaries and am sure that we will see another Speedbusters or Dirty Dining segment before we get a report on the lastest radical bills from Madison.  This is even more appalling since it is generally Republicans from suburban Milwaukee bringing all this crap up.  I was wondering if you had any thoughts on what is going on as far as Democratic candidate in 2014.  I never loved Ron Kind but believed he could be competitive.  I like Barca but don't think he would stand a chance.  Getting more depressed that 2014 will be repeat of 2010- bring me off my NW Milwaukee ledge.  Thanks again for your diaries.

        •  Ron Kind would be a disaster (0+ / 0-)

He's a Blue Dog with further political ambition and has been going around the state glad handing and drooling with anticipation.  Barca will stay in the Assembly - he's a good guy but really doesn't want or need the statewide hassle of a run for Governor.

And Barrett is out - he's said so publicly and that's good.  He was a lousy candidate who failed, over and over again, to point out why Walker needed to be recalled (he never once talked about collective bargaining or the slashes to programs for the poor and disabled).

There's the Kathleen Vineholt supporters encouraging her to run, but that candidacy will go nowhere because she's almost as pro-birth as Walker.  Yes, she'll get the anti-Walker vote, but activists and progressives won't back her with time or money.

Nobody for sure is stepping forward now, but someone should get the jump on 2014 soon as Tammy Badwin did for her 2012 victory for the US Senate.  She has shown demonstrably that progressives with a progressive agenda WIN statewide.  Offering up more weakling Democrats will only lead to further losses.

We need a solid progressive to defeat Walker and a whole bunch of progressives for legislative office.  It's the only way to win.

Additionally, Feingold said that he won't be a candidate for public office in 2014 and hinted at a run for his old Senate seat in 2016.

DPW chair Mike Tate said right before the DPW convention that several "good people" were looking at a run against Walker, but refused to provide names.

to be replaced but we're stuck with him another year.
