    write such an intelligent reply.

Here's the situation, as I see it... Think of something; I've voted Democratic for almost 25 years.  I've never missed an election.  Actually, if I remember correctly when it comes to elections I may have voted in 100% of them (national, special, local, mid-term).  If I'm mistaken about that, then for sure it would be at least 99%.

In every election I've voted straight party line, Democratic, 100% of the time.

I've attended several town-hall meetings, campaign rallies, and fund-raisers with Democratic candidates.

For the 2008 election I attended a one-day training session at "Obama-camp" in San Francisco; I also attended an Obama rally at the Bill Graham Auditorium; I remember standing in a line that snaked around the block to get in.

Does that make me a radical, a party loyalist, a centrist, a pragmatist?  Maybe one of those?

So that's the "world-as-is-it" part of my involvement.

Now, in the "world-as-it-should-be" part of me, I recognize the system for what it is: a proto-fascist cesspool of corruption where the two major political parties are tools of the rich and powerful and where politicians of both parties sell their offices and influence to attain personal gain, thus committing treason against the people and against their country.

Now, with that bifurcating understanding of the world around me, I come to understand that I have a role to play within the system as it is (knowing that it is a proto-fascist cesspool of corruption), and as a citizen trying to do everything possible to change the status quo.

And sometimes that necessitates for citizens to band together and exert pressure on the system from without the established frameworks--frameworks that benefit the corrupt ruling elite.
