    have always needed scary enemies to get elected:

    Red Scare during the depression.
    Evil empires of WWII
    Red Scare and GAYS in the 1950s.
    Missile gap and COMMIES and SOVIETS and NUCLEAR in the 1960s.
    Vietnam in the 1970s led into Southern Strategy (racism).
    Reagan united Republicans and Evangelicals and Fundamentalist Religious in the 1980s.  Abortion!  GAYS!

    On and on.

    The very sad part today, is that Democrats are Republican-lite.  Our leaders promote fear as well, rather than promoting building up our nation and a positive future.  Sure they have their reasonably good social aspects, but financial and military, it is all about FEAR.

    Win elections by scaring people.
