    A generation or two ago everybody was saying the same thing - we don't need nukes, "clean" alternatives would pick up the slack.

    Well, they didn't - the use of coal has doubled since then.

    And what's happening now?  Pretty much the same thing (it's not the difficult to google coal use in Europe and Asia to see that quite vividly).

      And still aren't doing so fast enough.  It costs more than subsidized coal, you know.

      Ironically, the more renewable energy we build (or should have already done so) lowers energy price in the long run.

      The real problem is the stranglehold oil/gas/coal hold on policy.  We simply haven't and aren't investing in renewables like we could/should/didn't.

        which are some of the most profitable businesses in the world. Even as politicians shake the Austerity voodoo doll in our face.

        Imagine a "New Deal" type program to putting people to work building out a clean energy infrastructure. Just might get the economy going to.

        Don't really know what the solution is - I suspect there is none.
