    legal as a condition of employment to open an account with a bank you did not choose.

    I wish there was a credit union for these workers, but it does seem like in America you have a choice where your paycheck is deposited.

    I wonder which states require that the employee has the option of a check.

    And yes this is a way to nickel and dime the poor with fees from a bank not of their own choosing.

      you are forced to open an account.  You just get issued a debit card that is linked to a bank (Chase?).  I guess that may be why there is a fee to check balance? - if you do not hold a Chase account?  

      There must be some deal in it for McD's -other than saving on printing costs for the paper checks.
