  •  Why even have a CIA? (26+ / 0-)

You mean the CIA that spent the first 40 years of its life spying on the USSR and couldn't even figure out it was collapsing? Great question.  Beats me.

    •  why not just dissolve the CIA? (9+ / 0-)

      That self described 'independent" agency.

With what - 15 or 16 other agencies - perhaps they have been made redundant........

The world would most probably be a much safer place without the actions of the CIA.

      2005 The Guardian....

A chastened former CIA director, George Tenet, says he regrets telling the White House it was a "slam dunk" that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, an assertion that provided the Bush Administration with its prime justification for the war. Seven months after the weapons inspectors of the Iraq Survey Group concluded that Saddam Hussein did not have a lethal weapons cache on the eve of the invasion, Mr Tenet admitted: "Those were the two dumbest words I ever said."

Mr Tenet stepped down as CIA chief last July, days before a report from the Senate savaged his seven years in office. Under his stewardship, the report said, the CIA was blinkered by "group-think" about Saddam's arms program, and suffered from a broken corporate culture and poor management. Subsequent reports attributed the CIA's intelligence failures to an over-eagerness to please its political masters.

Mr Tenet delivered his now notorious assessment of Iraq's weapons capabilities to President George Bush in December 2002, and the confidence of his "slam dunk" assertion was crucial to Washington's justification of its decision to invade.

by CIA. They do terrible stuff without oversight, there's blowback, and we're told a long sad tale of how we have to protect our national interests. We never hear the actual reasons.
How come we haven't actually won any "war" we've been involved in since the formation of CIA out of OSS?

among others, was all for abolishing the CIA.
'Some people' even think the CIA is a shadow government that starts wars, assassinates leaders, runs drugs and generally does things that are not 'more and better democraticy', but we don't go into that here.

    •   Theodore White warned China would go Commie (6+ / 0-)

the authorities would not believe him.

Any member of the CIA that was honest about soviet Union would not have lasted long, but many knew

instead of celebrating Reagan fpr destroying the ussr, we should have been outraged how they hyped its strength to increase military spending.. and on and on

So have many analysts, and cherry pick results that you want to make big money for military ghouls.

      •  Zbig Brzezinski did predict USSR's collapse. (0+ / 0-)

He even wrote a book predicting it before it happened.  The prediction didn't require CIA intelligence, just good analysis of publicly available knowledge.
