  •  Aldrich Ames was convicted of espionage for (0+ / 0-)

disclosing US secrets to the USSR, without there being a war between US and USSR.
Disclosing classified info to foreign governments is illegal.
Disclosing classified info, period, is illegal, but Snowden's disclosure of NSA surveillance on US citizens was an attempt to do "good" (even if illegal).  The disclosure of US cyber-intelligence operations against China and spying against Russia are also illegal, but unlike the NSA surveillance against US citizens leak, I have a hard time classifying the China/Russia leaks as an attempt to do "good".  Looks more like an attempt at notoriety or misguided, foolish idealism.

I don't get why progressives that support the leaking of NSA surveillance on US citizens feel obligated to also support disclosing US intelligence gather operations on China and Russia.  The two are not related at all.  None of the Patriot Act, FISA, or American Civil Liberties is involved in the China/Russia disclosure.
