  •  Good morning! (14+ / 0-)

I had weird dreams featuring my cats sliding down the stairs on pillows and crashing into a Christmas tree and goth-looking sun-worshippers prostrating themselves out on the street as the sun rose above the hills.

It's International Picnic Day. What's in your picnic basket (besides bear repellent)?

Wine, cheese, good crusty bread, salami, potato salad, chocolate

It's also apparently International Panic Day. What makes you want to panic?

The thought of Republicans ever fully regaining power.

George Lucas is predicting eventual $150 movie tickets(!). Do you still go see movies in theaters? What's the best theater and why? What is the most annoying thing about movie patrons these days?

If they get that expensive I simply won't go, and neither will most people.  Unless that's just inflation and $150 is equal to today's $15, which I suppose is possible.

I do go see some movies in the theater. I have my favorite movie house just around the corner, The Vista. Built in 1927 as The Bard, it's like an intimate version of the grand movie palaces, with the Egyptian motif for decor (though the exterior is more Mission). Though it doesn't slope like modern movie houses, it has the best leg room of any theater (they took out every other row of seats), real popcorn with real butter, and they show not only the latest blockbusters, but art house films and cult classics as well. And they host many of the offerings for the Silver Lake Film Festival. And their prices are better than the chains. Oh yeah, it's a chain. Two theaters.

Talking, texting, and noisy food wrappers are the prime annoyance. And my friend who always asks what is happening when we are both watching it unfold at the same time (which is why I never go to films with her anymore).

The very worst (and funniest in hindsight) experience I ever had in a theater was when I went to see Shampoo, and there was a couple behind me.  The man kept up a running commentary (often wrong) about what was happening.  At one point, the Beatles singing Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was on the soundtrack.  The man said, "That's Elton John singin' that."

I was thinking, "That poor woman.  If she survives this, she'll never go out with him again."  After a series of glares and shushes, he was quiet for a few minutes.  Then she said, "Where are they now??"

      •  Oh, (0+ / 0-)

        that is hilarious.

Though maybe his running commentary made her miss what was going on.
