      •  What's the point? (8+ / 0-)

You think those who care about massive domestic surveillance don't also care about Trayvon Martin and the NYPD stop  & frisk program?

        •  That's certainly not the point (4+ / 0-)

the point was (another) lame-ass attempt at a joke.

The amount of concern over a possible dystopia future far outweighs the real concerns of real civil liberty violations in real life today.

Did you see the diary on the DOJ getting involved in stop and frisk? That's okay, nobody did.  No rescue, either.

Not that lunachickie isn't just trolling. She's a piece of work.

          •  Ha, lunachickie trolling? I think maybe you should (7+ / 0-)

take a peak in a mirror. You are in every diary discussing the NSA both pro and con and lunachickie is trolling by doing the same old crap you are doing? Come on Inland, try harder.

deeper than "says you" despite obsessively responding to everyone she doesn't like.

BTW, anyone look at the diary about stop and frisk?  No? Too busy defending lunachickie?  Doesn't that kinda say it all?

don't forget that--not if you're making it about another person.

And you clearly have selective reading skills. If one could actually refer to them as skills. Which would naturally lead one to wonder whether you're a product of a No Child Left Behind education...

If you provided a link. Diaries move pretty on the recent list, so if your post happens at a time when people are either already reading something else, or are not looking at the page, it can disappear before anyone knows it's there.

So, post a link. I am sure a bunch of us will read it, now that we know it exists.

          •  Link? (2+ / 0-)

I'd like to read that diary.

This is very important. I republished the diary in hope that more would see it, especially Dee, as she is keeping a close eye on this case. I"m sure she'll be writing more on it.

Feds Oppose NYPD Over Stop and Frisk

The Obama Administration is taking a side in the controversial NYPD stop-and-frisk trial. The Justice Department notified city officials on Wednesday that it is preparing a brief that will back the plaintiffs from the Center for Constitutional Rights, who argue that city police officers are stopping people based on their race. The move makes it more likely that the trial judge will appoint a federal monitor to oversee the department. Mayor Bloomberg’s expansion of the stop-and-frisk program resulted in 533,042 stops last year, 87 percent of them on blacks or Latinos. DOJ officials have until Thursday to file the brief.

          •  What's the matter with you? (12+ / 0-)

Can't you see that stop and frisk is just another aspect of what happens when we lose our rights civil and human in the name of protecting us? It's another example of our for profit security police state. How many humans are in our prisons? Systemic racism, fear and hatred is flourishing both here and globally. Figure it out it's not the tough. Killing, imprisoning, tracking, impoverishing and finding the pre-criminals among us and the people we declare a criminal or a potential security threat is this country's MO. It's all part of a whole cloth including the viscous racist global economy.

            •  Yup (6+ / 0-)

The electronic surveillance is just an extension of street surveillance, and the abuses happening on the street will occur off the street, too. We need to stop all aspects of the surveillance state.

                •  They don't want to (5+ / 0-)

it shatters the narrative they have accepted as reality. In order to support Obama's ideology, agenda and policy you have to accept the back-stories as reality. Even when it is the same false irrational narrative that the Bushies sold us after 9/11. You also have to believe that the president is a powerless victim of the evil Republicans even though this administration has expanded and embraced the same agenda and policy as the way forward. 'Victories for compromise'. Double think is the only way you can refute what your lying eyes see.

                  http://en.wikipedia.org/...

doublethink allows simultaneously holding and believing contradictory thoughts without noticing the contradiction, to wit:
“     . . . but by the exercise of doublethink he also satisfies himself that reality is not violated . . . To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary, to draw it back from oblivion for just so long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies – all this is indispensably necessary. Even in using the word doublethink it is necessary to exercise doublethink.
. . . The prevailing mental condition must be controlled insanity".

somersaults your morality must impose on you to completely disassociate between the evils targeting specific groups today & then give the big shrug about what happens to those same groups and the rest of society in 2, 4 or 10 years down the line.

The amount of concern over a possible dystopia future far outweighs the real concerns of real civil liberty violations in real life today.
