    ...but it wasn't ideological.

Although you could consider the political climate and theorize that a political body who wants less regulations would also be less willing to enforce regulations that exist.  It is a much broader argument about attitude of political parties.

That said, the regulations were there, they were ignored by the hotel and that makes the hotel management and ownership 100% criminally liable in my view.

The political argument is more of a philosophical larger picture.  I am not for or against more regulations.  That isn't even an argument that makes sense to me.  I am for appropriate regulations and enforcement of such (as I would say we all here are).  I also believe that this series of events are indicative of corporations and their willingness to skirt regulations to make a buck.  Why would anyone want to give more power over to such entities that continually prove they are not ethical enough to be worthy of such.

When government fails to protect people by failing to enforce the laws (like actually requiring permits, as not enforced here) and when insufficient regulation is in place (like possibly here, like requiring the hotel to close once the old people died and the kids got sick), that is an ideological failure. The ideology might be only "saving government money by not doing a thorough job or hiring people to do it well", but that's an ideology.

In fact, that is exactly the only real Conservative ideology, which is what you're arguing doesn't exist here. It does.
