  •  Now wait a minute there, sonny boy... (20+ / 0-)

... not all older Americans are like that.  Some are more liberal than you. Many took to the streets for civil rights, for peace, for the environment.  I'd love to see the younger generation do that.  Whatever happend to OWS?  Did you guys just give up?  Oh heck, even that was largely comprised of geezers.  You guys don't even get credit for OWS.

Please curtail your latent ageism.  Getting old is what happens to you if you're lucky, and age does confer a degree of wisdom, as you will see one day... if you're lucky.

    •  I should have had a "some" between (4+ / 0-)

"disconnected" and "older." I was trying to refer to the same seniors that were Romney voters in 2012. My bad.

      •  I quantified your statement exactly the way you (1+ / 0-)

intended it - strictly by the vote margins you quoted.  I supplied my own "some."  No need to apologize to me.  And I'm in the subject demographic.

Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well-warmed, and well-fed. --Herman Melville

    •  It's not about liberal or conservative (0+ / 0-)

Ordinary people frequently have no clue about how to protect themselves financially.  Wealthy people don't just make more money; they also protect what they have.  Middle class people could, if they wished, make similar decisions if they had the information.  Poor people have difficulty saving as well as protecting their assets especially if they are isolated.  The most disciplined and knowledgeable of poor people save and sometimes lift themselves out of poverty.  Some immigrant communities know how to use community loans to get their members past hand to mouth existence.

      •  Most lower middle class and poor people (0+ / 0-)

haven't got enough to get by. They aren't interested in savvy investing, they're interested in eating and keeping the utilities on. The recent financial shenanigans of the too-big-to-fail entities threw millions into the bucket I mention. As long as the same vehicles exist that caused the collapse in the first place (you know they do), millions more will join those ranks.

        •  Depends On the People of Whom You're Speaking (0+ / 0-)

There things some poor communities know that others don't.  All poor people are not the same.  Those who are able to dig themselves out don't use the same vehicles that failed before because they knew better than to use them.  It never would have occurred to them to get involved with those shams.  It depends on the information in the community
