There are GOPers who fall into what I will call the John McCain category. It's an imperfect example, but I'm going with it. The John McCains of the world have a fairly healthy attitude toward sex. They are, of course, perfectly willing to throw low income folks' reproductive freedoms under the bus in order to pander to the hard core pro-life lobby in the GOP. However, they wouldn't want to ever see their own wives or daughters denied access to safe, legal abortion in the event they had an unplanned pregnancy.

Now, the latter of these two groups I will refer to as the, oh hell... I'm just going to go for broke here and call them the Marcus Bachmann caucus. OK, I know that's a bit extreme but I just can't help myself. You talk about a guy who definitely does NOT have a healthy attitude about sex, he could be the poster boy for a PSA campaign to warn against the dangers of sexual repression.

I get the sense that, outside of his tendency to want to bomb relatively weak, unstable oil producing countries and gut the social safety net... John McCain is a good time. He throws great parties, and seems to know how to enjoy himself. I like his wife and daughter alot. Bachman, on the other hand... is just C-R-E-E-P-Y!!! His, uh... family, is... uh... I just don't want to know, man.

In most western countries, Elliot Spitzer and David Petreaus would both be contenders for their parties nominations in 2016. I wish that were actually the case. But not in these puritan United States. I wonder if we'll ever get over our hangups with the sex enough to focus on important issues.

You can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America.
