    Life in an echo chamber is no way to live, especially for creative types.

      life in the echo chamber is the nemesis of creativity. Still, King has my respect for the many great tales he told, in an amazing voice, and for how he made the "horror" genre relevant to so many---not because it was horror, but because his voice was so authentic and dealt, subtly, w/so many things beyond that genre.

      One of my absolute faves of his is "Misery." On the surface it's a terrifying tale of a bright and cheerful monster named Annie. How benign of a name can you get? This too is a talent of King's---his understanding of the importance of contrast. Evil monster gets a name like Annie.

      But under that surface, that book is about a lot more, and since that book's protagonist is a writer, it foreshadows "On Writing" in many interesting ways.
