That was very nice of you...

Do you want me to add that you publish a MM diary each Monday?

    •  Excellent idea! The more the merrier! (3+ / 0-)

My mom actually had meatless Sunday when we were growing up. It had more to do with stretching her food budget to the end of the month. But we grew up very comfortable with the idea that meat is not the only protein and you can be fine with less of it. It's also a no brainer for me to pass up expensive meat so I can spend more fresh fruits and veggies. Summer is when I kill my food budget with all the wonderful produce, much of it now locally grown.

When we had a foreign exchange student my senior year in high school, she reinforced how widespread the concept is. She came from a very typical home in Panama (4 adults in a 1 bedroom apartment).  The first Sunday when the meatless meal was explained, she tried to go along. Finally she got up and got a hot dog from the fridge and cooked it! Could not deal with no meat at a dinner meal. (We didn't explain. I think we only had them because of the welcome party for her.)

I think she eventually did get used to it. It's been 43 years!
