    I once asked my mom how her family made it through the depression in rural OK and she said they lived on nothing but beans and cornbread for what seemed like years.

    As for radio, I loved spending the night at my maternal grandmother's house as we would climb up into her feather bed, cuddle up, and listen to her favorite radio show: Art Linkletter's "Kids Say the Darndest Things".

      literally.  My mother was living on one small meal every other day from food relatives provided.  She made sure I had something to eat at least once a day.  As I remember it there never were any "Good Old Days".  Thank you for the comment.
