  •  I don't think (6+ / 0-)

Progressives are in any way relevant to him.  He doesn't need us and he knows it

Touch all that arises with a spirit of compassion. An activist seeks to change opinion.

He needs approval ratings, as I said above, and the only way he falls into the 30s is if the progressives desert him. And if his ratings fall into the 30s, he is done.

So he MUST make sure the base still believes. I still will, perhaps because I have a little more faith in him than some others. Which is why I believe he is going to pick fights. He needs the left fighting for him or the right will tear him down.

    •  He needs us but so far he's been able to count (1+ / 0-)

on us because the Republicans are worse. Without progressives the Democratic Party is an empty useless shell of corporatists.
It wouldn't have the base it needs to win elections.

    •  Personally, maybe (1+ / 0-)

but the Democrats need us in 2014 since midterm elections are base elections. He has to be receiving pressure from Dems up for re-election to make sure not to piss off the base...especially young people who are likely to skip a midterm anyway.

There's a difference between a responsible gun owner and one that's been lucky so far.

      •  This would be a perfect way to fire up the base (0+ / 0-)

Honestly, the environmental issue is far more important to many people and unfortunately I think that many would be fine with a dictatorship(which this isn't in my mind) if it meant that climate change would be stopped.

If debt were a moral issue then, lacking morals, corporations could never be in debt.
