  •  Two older sisters & one older brother. (21+ / 0-)

My brother died in 2007 at the age of 53, and I haven't seen my oldest sister since his funeral.

Then again, I hadn't seen her since shortly after our mother's funeral in 1996.  As the oldest, she strongly believed that she should be in charge of our dying mother, and as Mom's POA I believed just as strongly that Mom should be in charge of Mom as much as possible.  The resulting conflict was as divisive as it was unavoidable.

That leaves my middle sister, who as Mom's executor was my strongest ally in the aforementioned conflict, and I will always be grateful we were on the same team.  We hadn't been terribly close growing up, although we had gradually found a lot of common ground as adults even while our lives were very different, and our love and appreciation and respect for each other grows each day.

Last year we took a train trip halfway across the country to visit with our aunt and two cousins, and it was amazing.  We had never spent that much time alone together, and though there was the occasional friction I think it was only because we both wanted to make sure the other felt her inclinations and preferences were being respected.  There are worse reasons for friction than that.  :-)

And we are both liberal Democrats!
