  •  3 Sisters, 3 Brothers (19+ / 0-)

They are my best friends in the world. We all live within 3 miles of each other and our father and childhood home. All left town at one point or another but we can't stay away. Among us we have 16 living children who get all the benefits of a big family without having to share bathrooms. I will never leave Madison because of these people no matter my job situation and I'll never be poor because they have my back and I, theirs.

    I am exceptionally fortunate.

    •  You are indeed fortunate! (10+ / 0-)

I am fifth of six sisters, ages 71 to 57.  We have spread out over the years, grown apart, not spoken to each other, but the energetic vibrations of blood have drawn us back together.
And because of six different perspectives, we have been able to piece together hidden truths about our mother that has finally freed us from covert narcissism and allowed us to heal.

Although we live in four different cities about 5 hours apart, our children adore each other and our family gatherings are epic and wonderful.  I imagine that as we continue to age, we will converge on our birth town, where 2 sisters have always lived and hold down the fort for us until we return.

In fact, one sister lives in a cabin and is our "Mother Mags" like in The Stand.  We have a family "zombie/catastrophic flu/climate apocalypse" plan to all converge at her place if/when the worst happens.  My son in California is the farthest away, and envisions himself traversing the country on his motorcycle to get back to PA when the time comes.

We only had 2 cousins, both like siblings.  One female, still alive but far away, and one male, who committed suicide many years ago.  All our parents, my father, his brother, sister and  spouses, are dead.

I feel fortunate too.  Oh, and we are all Dems--except for a couple spouses.
