  •  I lingered over many passages (7+ / 0-)

in this wonderful essay. In particular, this one here snagged my interest:

At the same time, we’ve embedded ourselves more and more deeply in a system that deplores sacrifice. We’ve accepted the idea that selfishness and greed are the only forces that can result in “progress.”
The little people are always enjoined to "sacrifice" to "save the struggling (fill in the blank)." It's the big guys, the Mitt Romneys and Pete Petersons, whose greed and selfishness are exalted.

Perhaps righting this upside-down state of affairs--and you see this project undertaken by participants in this venue--will first require flagging any authority's admonition to "sacrifice" basics needed for human survival and dignity as subversive.

I also like the phrase "high-functioning racist" and will remember it.

I wish I could tip and recommend you 1,000 times.

It's here they got the range/ and the machinery for change/ and it's here they got the spiritual thirst. --Leonard Cohen
