Capitalism is a phase, relatively young, and destined to be replaced.  The Republicans are using the excesses for short term gain--but ensuring its eventual demise.  Eventually, the digital world will enable much more centralization--which means less individual freedom.  Remember how Florida and Ohio misused computers to thwart democracy--so, yes, democracy will also evaporate.  What replaces these supposed foundations of America is unknown--but social media is destroying stability.  A governmental vacuum will lead to some sort of "Leader"--Orwell was a genius.  The question isn't --"will this leader be benevolent?"--it is "will the Leader think long term?"  If not, the cockroaches win. BTW--read Vonnegut's "Player Piano" to see how another genius saw this future.

that capitalism cannot last, at least the kind we are suffering from now that depends on continual growth of sales and profits. We are fast running out of natural resources to build products to sell to the masses that that do not have the means to buy the products they are making.
I haven't bought a new vehicle since 1979, and am driving the "new to me" 1987 Volvo 245 that I bought in 2000, not because I can't afford a brand spanking new car, it's because I don't need one.
During this time I have bought a few new mac computers and tablets though, so I suppose I am helping to keep capitalism going for awhile longer.

The Apple commercial hailing "engineered in the USA" is infuriating--they are made in Asia--assembled in Asia.  Also, they hide $100 billion overseas--avoiding US taxes--they are everything destroying capitalism.

Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends. - Gandalf the Grey
