  •  Our understanding of Physics is rudimentary (4+ / 0-)

More than likely advanced intelligent life uses the physics of the universe in ways that we don't understand and can't detect. I doubt whether they send out radio waves and wait millenia for a response.

Other than Einstein's work on relativity and Bohr's work on quantum mechanics our understanding of how the universe works is anchored in jello.

I am really nervous about H. sapiens learning any more than they know now. Knowledge is power and fundamental knowledge of physics is immense power. So far we have never shown any restraint in using knowledge and technology to make weapons of war. Imagine weapons of unlimited energy. Where's the research on converting mankind to a civilization that never makes war? The work of Einstein, Oppenheimer and Teller may yet destroy us. Do we want to take this to the next level?

    •  Never makes war is probably impossible (1+ / 0-)

until/unless we achieve a homogeneous society world-wide, but we could eliminate most war by making resources (primarily energy) and land (living space) too cheap to meter.

If a greater understanding of physics leads to generating unlimited energy, that leads to colonizing effectively unlimited living space, which eliminates two of the big drivers of war.
