What do we know about EU espionage conducted on the USA, bugs placed in US missions in Europe, etc.? What information is out there about it?

I'm not denying that some of their outrage may be hypocritical. However, I have serious doubts that anyone in the EU (except, of course, for the UK, whose activities are becoming much better known), has operations anywhere close to comparable to the NSA. But I could be wrong. I do not at all think it is safe to make this assumption, though. The NSA and UK spying operations, all put together, are rather extraordinary.

it is the states that do this, to the best of their capabilities, and they are collecting intelligence however and wherever they can. That is the real world. I would not be surprised, however, if the USA shared information with these very same states when it could help them.
