  •  So sorry this happened to you. (18+ / 0-)

It took me years to find someone who could pinpoint what was going on with me, as it was simply impossible that it might be PTSD and panic attacks. Couple those with weird metabolism (low blood pressure and hypoglycemia), and I was just a mess for a long time.

My one saving grace is just how stubborn I am.

I never, however, went through anything as horrid as what you've been through, although I'm certain there are people who would have preferred it, given how obnoxious my behavior was at times.

I didn't choose a chemical path to recovery. Instead, I chose a physical and emotional path, one that included lots of physical activity, a drastic change in diet and---hang on---the flushing of almost everyone close to me, with a very few exceptions. I was surrounded by toxic people, lots of alcoholics and drug addicts, which is to be expected, given my family history. The difference with most of my "friends" is that they were relatively prominent, which made that decision the most difficult of all---but the most important.

I applaud you and hope another chapter is coming, or at least an update on how you're doing now?

    •  I like the idea of changing set and setting (6+ / 0-)

Changing diet doesn't need to be a drastic change but getting into cooking can be a positive thing in your life.

Diet and exercise. Again the physical activity doesn't have to be drastic, maybe buy a bicycle and just leisurely explore a park or a bird sanctuary, someplace beautiful, calm and relaxing without a lot of people or pressure.

Maybe find some new ways to express yourself
