a lot of us have those experiences, and we admit only to those we trust not to judge us that we chose to stay with the familiar. We knew we were wrong then, but because we were rooted by the real fear of exclusion, of becoming the other, we stayed silent. Hopefully a lot of us who have been faced with the adult version of those experiences have not allowed our own cowardice to stop us from doing what's right. To turn against what is right, to turn against universal love, is to die inside. To stand up is to shine with strength. Maggie Kuhn said, "Speak your mind, even if your voice shakes." We must learn how to do that, and then never forget it.
