      Although I suppose "Top Comments" diaries already serve as a "comment rescue" function — like Community Spotlight, which took the place of the old diary rescue. (The Rescue Rangers, BTW, continue to do yeoman service and deserve thanks from every one of us.).

          … really deserve to be diaries, and be seen by far more people than just the readers who stumble into a particular thread.

          Of course, being posted in diary form doesn't guarantee anything either, since at times things scroll off the Recent Diaries list pretty rapidly. Alas, I suspect a lot of good stuff vanishes with nary a peep. The Rescue Rangers can only do so much.
