New King James Bible has the following translation:

1 Corinthians 6:9-10: Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioiners will inherit the kingdom of God
So, apparently sweet-looking lesbians and effeminate gay men are right out, but butch lesbians and Mr. Slave are fine.

I am a practicing Christian, but there comes a point where you have to conclude that Paul had some issues and ignore parts of what he wrote.

The word that the NKJV is translating as effeminate is "μαλακοὶ" in the original Greek. Etymologically, that's something like "soft" or "malleable". I suppose you could make the jump right over to "effeminate homosexual", but there's some legitimate scholarly debate over what exactly Paul was trying to convey there. Linguists citing other period sources have provided support for everything from "hedonists" to "male prostitutes".

As an aside, Paul apparently straight-up invented the word " ἀρσενοκοῖται", which the NKJV translates as sodomites, and only a handful of other authors ever used it in a context that gives any insight into its definition. It definitely does have something to do with homosexuality, but all the examples that were clearly spelled out were the forcible rape of boys, which ... is certainly an activity that ought to be on a list of sins.

      •  What is this "Greek" of which you speak? (0+ / 0-)

Are you telling me that Paul wasn't writing in American?!?

It is because of this very issue that I tend not to get terribly excited about exact word choices in the Bible, since the translators obviously have some sort of bias, even if entirely unintentional.

with Christianity and the Bible is attribution. A Baptist will tell you that the Bible is the work of God. And yet, much of the New Testament is made up of letters written by the Apostles, who were simply men (Constantine removed all the letters written by female Apostles). Now, if I believed in God, I might be worried about what God wrote (10 Commandments???), but why in hell would I care about what Paul wrote (mostly anti-woman drivel)? As I get further into this post, I realize that there are about 10,000 things wrong with Christianity...
