  •  I need to do one on my own district (6+ / 0-)

My legislative district, the 26th, is the most swing district in the state of Washington, and we have an appointed Democratic state senator who faces a special election this year to keep his seat (which is also for formal control of the state senate). If he wins, he also faces the general election next year.

As I said above, this is for formal control of the state senate. Right now the senate has 25 Ds and 24 Rs, but two Ds joined with the Rs to throw control of the state senate to the Rs in exchange for leadership positions for themselves. If our state senator, Nathan Schlicher, MD JD, loses to his Republican challenger, state representative Jan Angel, the Rs won't need those two Ds any more, because it'd be 25 Rs and 24 Ds. This race is for all the marbles.

Nathan is young, scary smart, a practicing emergency room physician, and a father of three. I've already gotten a commitment from him to let me interview him for Daily Kos, and a diary that introduces him should also be one that introduces the dynamics in play in the district and in the state senate.

An organ donor saved my life! Is this bragging?

That sounds like a crucial diary...

The New York state senate is more often talked about, but we should not forget Washington State Senate. Please write that diary, it would be greatly appreciated.

a GOPer, passed away?  Are we playing real hard for that as it would not only secure the majority, it would end the coalition.

      •  Carrell's replacement named quickly (1+ / 0-)

Representative Steve O'Ban (R-28) is now Senator Steve O'Ban (R-28). A replacement in the House hasn't yet been named, but it will be a Republican, of course.

The 28th is another swing district, also in the Tacoma/Pierce County area. Tami Green is a strong progressive, but the other two seats are Republican. If we can find a strong candidate against O'Ban in the upcoming special election this fall, it's a possible takeaway.

Sidenote: I'd like to take a wider look at WA Legislative District races, but it's more of a hope than a promise.
