  •  It's time to drastically cut police funding (6+ / 0-)

I'm so sick of the cops.  I'm at the point now where if I hear a politician say he want to put 10,000 more cops on the street, I just label the pol as a worthless fascist, wasting taxpayer dollars on another failed crusade.  10,000 more cops for what?

No I don't want 10,000 more cops beating up civilians.  No I don't want to pay for it.  No, it's not valid job creation.  No, it's not economic stimulus.

It is quite simply putting more and more dangerous armed people on the street who in most cases are legally allowed to execute people for the slightest perceived threat.

Police departments have simultaneously become the most cowardly and violent organization in the nation, and that is a horrible combination.  They straight up do not care about protecting anyone but the 1%.

I live in NYC and our police are ... well they are very special.

But I see a lot of good evidence and well funded police departments and having a lot of police can help reduce crime.

This abusive behavior isn't coming from individual "bad apple officers" it's coming from bad policies and bad cultures in these departments. It's coming from the "old timers" at the top who really think that they neep to keep a boot on black America's neck or all hell will break loose.

In NYC racial/class profiling is something that cops are essentially TOLD that they MUST do. I know cops who have criticized this and had their careers ruined for it.

The Hawthorne department seems like it has systematic issues too. Why are so many people complaining about them and suing them?

Though there are days when I start feeling like you do. Like "what's the point?" --I have had police help me when I was attacked. I do think some people do the job for the right reasons. Though they never did catch the guys who attacked me and they had the audacity to ask if I was a hooker.

It's so hard to get them to take you seriously. I go to all the "community" meetings but I don't know if it does any good.

I just think our policies are messed up. And it's because of deeply ingrained racism that permeates all of the decisions.

For, much of the public dosen't care as long as those who's rights are violated are not white and/ or well-to-do.

I mean it takes rich famous black people getting harassed to even get people to see this as a credible problem.

But maybe you are right maybe they are too far gone to be repaired.
