IANAL, but it seems that as soon as this law, or any of the ones mentioned, go into effect, there needs to be a lawsuit filed based on section 2 of the VRA, the one that still makes it illegal to discriminate by intent or effect.  In court, it needs to be argued that it will cause irreparable harm (can't vote after the fact) and that an injunction is needed to prevent the law from going into effect while the litigation works its way through the system.  Then argue that the fact that the NC legislature did this shows that they should be "bailed in" to pre-clearance.

That is a lot of heavy lifting, and I have no idea if it would work, but it seems under what's left of the VRA, it's the only route through the courts.

I apologize if my references to specific parts of the VRA are not accurate, I'm going from what I remember reading lately.  And I'm too lazy to go look it up.

Government can't restrict free speech, but corporations can? WTF

I believe the law stipulates that you have to show that it has actually harmed someone, which I believe you cannot do until after elections. By then, it will already be too late.

And the number of elections overturned through these suits is negligible.

And as soon as the law is challenged, they'll just pass a similar one. Rinse/Repeat. There are infinite ways to cheat.
