It's always interesting to get a sense of the timeframe of evolution on earth.  That killer asteroid is scary to contemplate in what it implies for what we have done to ourselves via global warming.

It also stirs echoes of dr pangloss (non-ironically mind you) that you and I and all of us today on dkos got very very lucky in terms of the timing and location of our births.

Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends. - Gandalf the Grey

When it becomes a book it might be interesting to see what the species that became dominant after catastrophes had in common that set the stage for their survival

To make mammals a success being adapted for climbing requires a post catastrophe world with trees rather than deserts, less rather than more ice and fire, and a climate that doesn't lead to a water world.

Maybe it would be interesting to see what species would have come out on top and why in each of those other scenarios for each of the species extinction catastrophes.

I self-publish my unusual works. I'm working (fitfully) on Volume Two right now. I realize there will never be a mass audience for my stuff, but I am so interested in sharing all of this that I just have to give it away, if need be. I thank you for your thoughtful comments and your kind words. They are appreciated, more than you know.

Read a preview of Volume One of my book here.
