    and this poem immediately came to mind.

    Which is why I posted it as a comment over there.

    Given the strong reaction it drew there, I felt it worthwhile to also put it up as a diary so perhaps a few more people, those who normally do not read through all comments on a post, might encounter it, either for the first time, or yet again.

    It is to my mind timeless.

      during an NPR segment on poetry appropriate for the 4th.

      At a protest of Corporations Unlimited (mislabeled Citizen United) and corporruption of politics in general, I recommended it for the poetry component of the demo.  It was received enthusiastically.
