  •  For all its faults, the USA is FAR superior to.. (4+ / 0-)

....Germany and the rest of the Eurozone.

    Why?

    (i) In Brussels, you have a "small group of far-sighted statesmen" who are FANATICALLY convinced that the United States of Europe must be, even though the majority of Italians and Germans want to remain Italians and Germans.

This "small group of far-sighted statesmen" believes that the average German is too stupid to know what's good for him, so they'll do the thinking for all.

Quite pathetic, actually.  Even more pathetic that otherwise liberal minds agree with this "small group of far-sighted statesmen" and support the suppression of democracy to ensure a dystopian US of Europe.

(ii) In Greece, you have pols who couldn't care less about Greek popular opinion.  They are too busy attempting to position themselves to be accepted by the "small group of far-sighted statesmen" in Brussels.

(iii) In Spain, with youth unemployment at over 50%, you have pols who refuse to consider leaving the Eurozone.  Why?  Because these pols are like Greek pols.

Finally, Germany doesn't like US national security policies?

Have it stop accepting the billions of dollars working and middle-class US taxpayers send to it, via defense transfer payments.

Germany can't accept that it has ceased to be the premier country in Europe, ceding that spot to the only major country that said no to the Euro, the United Kingdom.

    •  Don't worry--on this new BiPartisan Slippery Slope (4+ / 0-)

Plan, we will catch up and surpass them all, in a very short amount of time.

      Just you wait and see.

    •  So what if we're better, because is that the bar (8+ / 0-)

      we're going for.

      Economy--Well, we're better than Mumbai

Medical--Well, we're better than kids that eat toxic waste out of dumps in Tijuana

Education--Well, it's actually over-rated.  The next generation actually doesn't need an education to work at McDonald's

Constitution--Well, ya know, as George Bush said, "It's just a piece of paper."

To blowing your credibility on a new issue. Of course leaving the euro zone would involve massive costs as well. (Can we say capital flight as people have to decide whether they want to hold drachma or euros).  And the euro has been difficult to implement because it includes such a vast array of economic regions.   However the idea of an American criticizing this approach when we use the dollar to force integration also over a massive area with big economic disparities is amusing.  And of course the euro treaty was in fact enacted by referenda in many places, so that argument is a little flat.  Finally, the idea that Germany is losing influence rather than gaining it just flies in the face of facts. Have you missed how totally abysmal the UK triple dip recession has been?

But honestly,Germany has a socioeconomic performance Americans wish they had

Do you know what an optimal currency area is?

US and Mexico have FAR more in common than Germany and Greece, yet I don't see anyone clamoring for the US and Mexico to share a common currency.

Milton Friedman was prescient over two decades ago, when he foresaw the Euro implosion.  Today, Paul Krugman, Nobel in Econoimcs, concedes the same point.

The Eurozone has no economic rationale.

In fact, those that support the Euro, those who support the creation of the US of Europe, those people support continued austerity in the non-core EZ countries.

As for Germany, it's a country of the past.

A country that does not have monetary sovereignty has ceased to be a nation state.

        The UK can print Pounds.

        The US can print Dollars.

        China can print Yuan.

        Germany can't print Deutsche Marks.

You should write a diary: Germany Is A Country Of The Past. Codify your arguments which prove that Germany is falling down.

No, you just mean that Germany is, ummm, passe'? What?

we ceded our currency printing to the private banks of the Federal Reserve.

          America.

You can't compete (economically) with a country that doesn't maintain it's population.

          8 times.
I have always had a good impression of Deutschland. I first went there in 1983. In 1994 I first visited Berlin, and I missed any chance to see the Deutsche Demokratische Republik.
The Germans have a long tradition of classical music and most of my European recordings are German.
