  •  Fund Raising Abilities, After Obama/OFA (0+ / 0-)

In response to a post about ALG's fund raising potential, some said that it's extremely hard if not impossible for someone to get thousands of individual donors. That's probably right, but I wonder what the proper point of comparison is. I think it's safe to say Obama and OFA in 2008 and 2012, and perhaps both campaigns in 2004, utilized the Internet in ways that neither side had done before, if only to significantly amp up the number of potential donors in a database.

Does this sound right to anyone? To me, it makes sense. But then, it raises the question of how much this database was utilized in 2010 and 2012, as well as how much someone like Elizabeth Warren could help someone like ALG. While I'm not sure of the specific reasons why, I can imagine that database sharing isn't done. Might that change?

I have to imagine that if someone like ALG were to utilize the list, she'd be able to find 1 percent of Obama's donors who would donate to her when they otherwise might not. Hell, even one half of 1 percent?

In other words, maybe nobody has gotten so many individual donations because nobody ever really tried or even had the means to do so.
