I guess the NYC exile crowd here will dig him... But the Sharrontologists and Paulistas will stone him over fiscal issues. Even the more conservative ex-New Yorkers who move here often tend to gradually fall more in line with the kind-of-sort-of-somewhat-maybe libertarianish norm of the Nevada GOP.

And don't even get me started on what can happen to Peter King in the fundie dominated South Carolina GOP...

    •  Why? Because he's Catholic? (0+ / 0-)

Also, what's the specific fiscal issue with him? I can't recall him ever significantly disagreeing with his party in recent times.

      •  I think that's part of it (7+ / 0-)

He's not just Catholic, but REALLY culturally Irish Catholic.  In the 1980s and 1990s, he pretty much openly supported the IRA in a pretty uncritical and naive/romantic way (and I say that as someone who has one wing of my family from the Catholic community in Northern Ireland).  I wonder if that would become an issue if he ran for President.

        •  He also used to have a good relationship (0+ / 0-)

with the Muslim community here on Long Island.

And you thought you had a bad break up!

        •  Most likely. (0+ / 0-)

I wouldn't put it past the other GOP contenders, especially considering the history of GOP mudslinging in South Carolina. (Remember the "John McCain fathered a BLACK BABY!!!" whisper campaign?)

And again, his "BIG GUV'MINT" Republican record will hurt here in Nevada. I can already see Chuck Muth (Nevada's own Grover Norquist) teaming up with the Paulistas to rip him to shreds here.

Did you happen to catch the image of Karl Rove and Donna Brazile dancing at some non-partisan event in DC recently? I saw it and wanted to scream. Most of my college friends are conservatives, even if they aren't nearly as political as I am, and so is a good chunk of my family. I'm more than open to the idea of going out of one's way to be friendly and cordial to the other side, but Rove is a world class scumbag, probably one of the people I'd like to punch in the throat before spitting in his face. What he did to McCain in 2000 was really despicable, and while I can't speak for someone like Brazile, I'm not sure I could be friendly to someone like him.

The Nevada GOP is in such disarray (if I recall correctly) that he should just form his own party . . . called the Bull Muth Party!

            Sorry, couldn't resist.
