Barbara Buono has to announce her running mate by July 28, and everyone's favorite site during the debacle over Chris Christie's appointment of Jeff Chiesa and scheduling of the special election, PolitickerNJ, reports that Buono wants to pick an African-American running mate:

Sources told PolitickerNJ early on in the process that Buono preferred an African American running mate and conventional wisdom held that she would pick a male to check the "diverse ticket" box.
The two names mentioned by the article are Montclair Councilman Sean Spiller and Logan Township Mayor Frank Minor. Apparently, State Assemblyman Benjie Wimberly was the leading candidate earlier this month, but withdrew from consideration due to "family concerns."

In my opinion, this is probably a good move on her part. The potential for the state's first African-American Lieutenant Governor and the state's first African-American United States Senator will probably generate some level of enthusiasm.

    •  Why not mention Newark Councilman Rice, Jr.? (0+ / 0-)

      I like him.

    •  Buono/Minor does not strike me well. (0+ / 0-)
