my long deceased grandfather was good friends with Coble and they went to college together and he's still friendly with my grandmother. I've heard from both her and my father that Coble opted out of the congressional pension plan and it makes it incredibly unlikely that he'll retire when he doesn't have to do all that much in office to retain a salary anyway aside from voting the party line and coming back to Greensboro frequently.

To add some harder facts to that tale though, you would think that 2012, when he had publicly reported health issues, a somewhat primary challenge, and half of his district was new that it would be the year to retire if any, yet he didn't.

He seems to be taking the Ralph Hall route and wanting to stay in office until he dies.
