  •  it's part of their history (0+ / 0-)

and is implied not so subtly in that person's strident and illogical attempt to equate the Democratic party to the GOP.

And the CT is in the idea that the Democrats are only interested in civil rights because it's 'hip'.

so any such implications, subtle or not, I'd say exist solely in your head.

How is that even remotely CT? "Politicians generally only say what it takes to get themselves elected" is neither false, nor particularly controversial. Comparing it to actual conspiracy theories like the moon landing/911 being staged is both ridiculous and insulting.

      •  considering that we have only 2 parties (0+ / 0-)

and considering that the commenter went out of his/her way to rail about women's rights I would say my reaction is spot out.

And to declare that it's all a game is pretty CT to me. It implies it's all a game and it's all worthless which is exactly what the 'serious 3rd party advocates' say and can never prove.

People like that commenter will rail and rail about the Democrats do everything they can to convince you that there is no difference when even among Democrats that do favor some restrictions or regulation of abortion there are vast differences between them and the GOP. And never mind that that part of the party is not a majority and frankly is only shrinking.

But that commenter either can not understand any of that nuance or refuses to acknowledge it and considering how childish they have behaved I really don't think there is a difference and I am don't feel like beating my head against a wall to find out.

So yeah to me that's a conspiracy theory, it's a wild unsubstantiated unprovable allegation.  The text book definition of a conspiracy theory.

have pointed out similarities between the parties, but that wasn't at all one of them. In fact, the Republicans are fairly consistent in what values they espouse (awful ones) so the parties aren't really the same on that point at all.
