    Don't forget the other noxious effect of the silent filibuster, it doesn't prevent debate on other issues. With the talking filibuster, the Senate grinds to a halt until the filibuster breaks, or is broken. It is much harder to sustain a filibuster when you have members of your own caucus who want to get something done that does have bi-partisan support. Even without that, the talking filibuster makes obstructionism obvious, as it can't last forever, someone has to break. Either the minority is strong enough because they have enough public support to make it worth their time, or they relent, so as not to look like fools.

    Workers of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose but your shackles. It is by the picket line and direct action that true freedom will be won, not by electing people who promise to screw us less than the other guy.
