  •  Yeah, that we couldn't listen to (4+ / 0-)

    Becasue it was illegal.

Much of the support for the Thornberry-Smith Amendment has focused on the fact that modern technology (and especially the Internet) renders the ban largely ineffective.  For instance, it’s a simple matter to download VOA material, even though doing so is technically a violation of the law.

    •  sheesh... it's not like we don't have tons of jazz (5+ / 0-)

stations in the US to choose from.

So, we don't need the government providing our jazz.

And can you imagine the music we'll get from Republican administrations? Not to mention they outlaw our music. What music was banned on the Clear Channel stations during the bush years?

Louis Armstrong : What a Wonderful World
Beatles : Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, etc

Pat Benator : Love is a Battlefield
      Black Sabbath : War Pigs
The Animals : We Gotta Get Out of this Place
The Bangles : Walk Like an Egyptian
Blood, Sweat & Tears : And When I Die
Phil Collins : In The Air Tonight
      Sam Cooke : Wonderful World
Creedence Clearwater Revival : Travelin' Band
      Bobby Darin Mack the Knife
      Neil Diamond : America
Bob Dylan : Knockin' on Heaven's Door
      Shelley Fabares : Johnny Angel
      Green Day : Brain Stew
Norman Greenbaum: Spirit in the Sky
Guns N Roses : Knockin' on Heaven's Door

Tons and TONS of musicians and music BANNED. Peter, Paul and Mary/ Ricky Nelson/ Tom Petty/ Elvis Friggin' Presley was banned/ Pink Floyd/ Queen/ Steve Miller Band/ Boston/ Dave Clark Five/ Blue Oyster Cult/ Skeeter Davis/ The Doors/ Carole King/ John Lennon/ Martha and the Vandellas... etc...

Anyway, Bush privatized $13 BILLION of assets of the University of Texas to his Clear Channel buddies and this is what we wound up with.

Bruce Springsteen and John Lennon brought down the Berlin Wall.

So, they intend to control even our music.

A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit.
