Here are some answers to your points.

#1 - Zimmerman got out of his car and confronted Trayvon.  If he had stayed away from him, like he was told to do, then the incident would not have happened.  Zimmerman put himself into a situation he didn't need to be in.  If Zimmerman had done what he was supposed to, Trayvon couldn't have been a threat to him.  Thus, Zimmerman remains guilty.

#2 - It doesn't matter if Zimmerman's a racist or not.  At least, not to me.  That's not my issue with this thing.  I'd be just as pissed at him if the races were reversed, or if race were off the table by having he and Trayvon be the same race.  The fact is a man, who didn't need to, created a situation that didn't need to happen, and shot a kid who wasn't doing anything wrong.  Period.  Melanin can be discussed as a peripheral, but it's not changing the core situation.

#3 - Don't know who threw the first punch, but, again, if Zimmerman did what he was supposed to, there wouldn't have been a situation in which a punch could get thrown.  Trayvon may have thrown the first punch.  It's possible.  He's a kid, and kids do dumb things - I certainly did.   Whenever I meet a 17-year-old who's not kind of a jerk, they give me the creeps.  So I'm not under the impression that Trayvon was any perfect angel.   But I do think he was minding his own business that night and got followed around by a wanna-be cop who scared him and put him on the defensive.  That doesn't excuse him if he threw a punch, but it's a punch I don't believe he'd've thrown if Zimmerman hadn't instigated the whole situation.  But Zimmerman brought a gun to a fist fight... and it was a fist-fight that Zimmerman started by causing the situation.  He was irresponsible, and he is a enormous coward to haul off and shoot someone who was not armed in a situation that he provoked.  Do you think if Zimmerman hadn't had the gun he would've gotten anywhere near Trayvon?  I don't think Zimmernan's got the balls to approach a six-year-old girl without a weapon in his hand.

#4 - Putting every person who kills anyone won't change past history... so, by that logic, nobody should be in jail.   You can take away my liberal-card for this if you want to, but I don't give a fuck about trusting "karma" to make somebody feel bad because they did something wrong.  Motherfucker created a situation that didn't need to happen, motherfucker killed a kid who wasn't doing anything wrong, motherfucker should be in prison for it.  Period.  I don't give two shits about his "tormented conscience."  That's not the law's job.

is similar to what I always say to RKBA type people when they say gun control won't stop gun violence.

Which is technically true.  But no laws completely eliminate anything.  Murders still happen, despite being illegal.  So do rapes.  So do robberies.  If "Well, it won't stop it from happening, so there's no point in outlawing it" is a valid argument, why not just get rid of laws all together?
