    Stand your ground? I guess it only depends upon who survives
    If both people have the right to stand their ground in a confrontation, and neither has a responsibility to try to de-escalate it, then it seems whoever has the quickest draw is the default winner. In fact, if maybe you started the fight, legally it's probably in your best interest to kill your opponent.

    This is no way to run a society. Of course, there are other issues with SYG laws, including racial disparities in how cases are investigated, but the above issue, in my opinion, is the core defect of the laws. Everyone has a right to self-defense, but but the use of lethal force should be a last resort, not just a natural, organic conclusion to ordinary conflicts.

      Actually, that would (quite sadly and pathetically) be an IMPROVEMENT on the current laws, because the truth of SYG is, if the survivor is white, he/she walks, and if the survivor is black, he/she goes to jail.  And that's not just the way SYG is adjudicated and applied, it's actually very much its purpose.
