so said Utah Phillips. And anyone looking at the AFT's awful recent history would be appalled that they're being grouped with "anti-teaching to the test" groups. Does anyone remember AFT's "Standards and Accountability" project that pushed teachers into teaching to the test? How about AFT joining pResident G. W. Bush in the Rose Garden for the signing of the truly Orwellian (and stolen brand) No Child Left Behind? And how this split the teachers' union movement in the US by the freezing out of the really truly anti-testing NEA? Nah, I didn't think so.

Look, I spent 14 years in the labor movement and in fact started with the AFT. I know their honorable early history kicking out segregated locals in the south in the 50's and 60's. But the AFT is now just a fucking political machine playing PR games. I have essentially no respect for an institution that has continually sold out the profession of teaching (not to mention the teachers themselves) over the past 30 or so years. The AFT shit the bed and is now acting all butthurt and surprised about the stink. Yeah, right.
