    Senator Rob Portman, Republican of Ohio, had been negotiating for three months, and until as recently as last week, to extract changes to the operation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in exchange for his support for confirming its first director, Richard Cordray. [...] On Saturday, Mr. McCain told Mr. Portman he would get nothing.

    You know, I don't think banks and businesses are as concerned about CFPB as the GOP.  They use these battles to raise money from their donors - banks, businesses, etc. But in the end, even the donors realize CFPB is something they'll survive.

    "If you can't take their money, eat their food, drink their booze and then vote against them, you have no business being in DC."
