    He did not bother to share with the company brass exactly what he planned to do on that flight.
    I think you left out what Johnson actually did with the first 707 which was a barrel roll over the hydro races at Lake Washington with 225,000 or so in attendance.  I wasn't just a check ride and yes the brass shit a brick.  After all it was the only 707 in existence and they had bet the whole company on it.  This brings up what used to be the stock "If it ain't Boeing I ain't going" remark which is no longer so often said of the new and "improved" McBoeing.
