  •  The amazing Rep. Chris Taylor... (16+ / 0-)

came over and greeted me & my daughter with hugs, and graciously welcomed my extended-family visitors (who were watching the proceedings from the edge of the Rotunda with their eyes just 'bout bulging out of their heads!)

That was shortly after my girl took this photo:

Rep. Taylor was the one who invited my daughter, at the ripe old age of 11, to speak at a press conference at the Capitol against vouchers this spring, and gave her a sparkling introduction.  In family conversations this morning about yesterday's events, I asked my girl if she would be interested in being a legislator like Rep. Taylor one day.  "Oh, yes!  That would be really interesting!" she responded enthusiastically.

Hope for the future, we got it right here.

Your daughter was wonderful at the hearing and the press conference - remarkably poised. A couple of news outlets interviewed a family from Ohio, in town for a reunion, who came to the Capitol to see democracy in action. One of the men arrested had his 10-year-old daughter with him, and he insisted that she be allowed to stay with him through the processing so that she could see that fighting for democracy isn't always easy.

my cousin from Iowa just minutes after we'd arrived at the Capitol.  He declined...  I think at that point they were just trying to wrap their minds around what they were witnessing up so close, how that felt and what it meant.

I saw the father-daughter photos.  Powerful.  I was in not-get-arrested mode myself, for reasons both hospitality-related and otherwise.... though I couldn't resist identifying myself as "of the in crowd" by hugging some friends.  I wasn't singing, alas.  An arrest for hugging would have been quite the event.
