Ballpark Villiage is under consttuction right now. It will be open next year. There will be "jointuse spaces" doing "all kinds of stuff". It is private money. Check this link:  http://www.stlballparkvillage.com/.

      opened April, 2006.

It's only taken them 7 years to get started on Ballpark Village.

But maybe we should be thankful. The owners of the Kiel Center never rebuilt the Kiel Opera House as they had promised when it and the old Kiel Auditorium were razed (in 1991) for the new Kiel Center (now corporately called the ScottTrade center).

Finally after 20 years, St. Louis City raised the money, and we now have the Peabody Opera House (yes, Peabody Coal is the name-sponsor)

When George Bush (later Bush 43) induced the City of Arlington, TX to build a new ballpark for his Texas Rangers, the exact same promises for exactly the same kinds of development were made. I lived there at the time. That was over twenty years ago. How much of that has been put in place? Nada.

You also might recall that the same Bush 43 crashed the national economy into the ditch in 2007. Given that reality, I am unsurprised it took a little extra time for the private sector to go ahead with the Ballpark Village plans. But at least they went ahead, marking a huge difference between Texas ans the Show Me State.

    •  BPV constructions is indeed underway (0+ / 0-)

and should be complete in time for the 2014 season, but I don't think it's going to be anywhere close to the size of the original plans when Busch III was built. Still, it's better than the open field and parking lot that was there previously.

Either way, I'm looking forward to it. I work in Downtown St. Louis and always like it when new shops and restaurants open here. I'm sure there will be some new places in BPV I'll frequent even when there's not a game.
